J-A1948-2
This uniface, obverse die trial is listed in the Judd Book as J-A1948-2, listed by Pollock as P3632. Judd lists it as a white metal but it appears to be lead. The obverse is the same design used on the Franklin half dollar except there are two sets of the designer's initials, JRS (John R. Sinnock). The reverse has concentric circles with a number "2" near the center. This piece is thought to be unique and may have once belonged to Gilroy Roberts (U.S. Mint Chief Engraver 1948-1965). Roberts completed the models of the Franklin half dollar after Sinnock's death in 1947. This piece was authenticated in 1982 by Charles R. Hoskins. NGC has certified and graded it MS60.

J-A1948-1
Another die trial exists with "XXXX" in place of the date. This one is listed by Judd as J-A1948-1, listed by Pollock as P3629. There are text stops before and after LIBERTY and also lacks the designer's initials (JRS).
